What is a payment remark?
A payment remark is a record that someone has failed to pay a claim on time. It arises after a legal or formal process, and is a clear signal that a company or a person has had payment problems.
When does it arise?
A remark is not triggered by a single late invoice. It is typically registered after debt collection, attachment of assets, enforcement proceedings or an uncontested legal decision. That means there is a real, documented payment default behind it.
How long does it last?
Remarks are deleted once the claim is settled, and are removed in any case after a certain period. While it stands, it affects the credit score noticeably and can cause the company to be refused credit or lose tenders.
How does it affect the assessment?
- Lowers the credit score and rating
- Reduces the recommended credit limit
- Can stop credit from suppliers
- Visible to anyone who runs a credit check
If you keep an eye on customers and suppliers, an alert about a new remark gives you the chance to act before a loss occurs.
